Wharrrrrrrm! echoed Bo Walker's distortion laden guitar as he strummed chords. Vince Smigiel (guitar) tinkered with his pedalboard and Scott Hagelgans (vocals/drums) tweaked his set right behind him. It was October 14th and the new Columbus three-piece was poised to record their energetic live sound to tape with Racket Club. In their self titled EP, Wharm, the trio effortlessly live-tracked sweeping harmonies of layered guitars over Hagelgans's steady kit and airy vocal melodies.
In an appropriately titled track, Fun, Smigiel lays down a spacey flange-infused melody over active drums and Walker's glorious distorted grime, as Hagelgans shouts from a distance. The song is short, much like Wharm's current tenure in the Columbus music scene, but it exudes liveliness and potential, much like Wharm's current trajectory. Come see them at Big Room Bar on 11/14 and Spacebar on 12/06.
